Shed Country

SureCan Advocate Christopher Kehoe took to the mountains of Utah armed with his hunting pack, side by side and of course his SureCan! Here are his adventures from the shed hunt opener in Utah!

-Chris-

I spend a lot of time during the winter watching deer and elk in their winter range trying to figure out the general areas where they are going to drop their antlers. By doing so, when spring comes, I can go out and find some brown gold aka antlers.

There is a lot of time and preparation that goes into preparing for a shed hunting trip. I always make sure that all of my gear and machines are ready and in working order. One of the first things I grab when I go, is my SureCan. I never want to head out to the backcountry and run out of fuel. I find comfort and confidence in the gear and products I take with me in the mountains. I want to make sure I have the best products so that I don’t have to worry about them failing on me. Other gear I make sure to take is summer and winter clothing, headlamp, boots, trekking poles, backpack, water and snacks.

The main reason I shed hunt, is to prepare for the regular hunts. I want to make sure that my body is conditioned to go into some of the nastiest country that Utah has to offer, that way when hunting season comes I am conditioned and ready to bring home big game. The excitement of possibly finding a big elk or deer shed gets my heart pounding.
